Process Scrap Availability Currently Exceeds End-Of-Life Scrap BREAKDOWN OF CHINESE AND EUROPEAN COMBINED SCRAP POOL COMPARED TO TOTAL 2024 REGIONAL SCRAP DISTRIBUTION Chinese scrap accounts for more than 80% of global recycling scrap in 2024. The large majority of this is process (manufacturing) scrap. China has scaled its battery manufacturing capacity to keep pace with global battery demand, resulting in process scrap being the dominant contributor to its regional scrap pool. As the rest of the world has accelerated electrification, but is still establishing regional manufacturing capacity, end-of-life scrap - even if relatively small - dominates over process scrap.
