Entering the Megawatt Charging Era: BYD (10C) & CATL (5-Minute LFP) BYD
CATL
Megawatt charging is in development for heavy duty vehicles, but this has seen development for consumer vehicles as well. In March 2025, BYD unveiled its “Super e-Platform,” which uses redesigned “Blade” batteries that support ultra-fast charging, high-performance electric motors, and a new generation of SiC power chips.
In April 2025, CATL publicly teased its next-gen Shenxing Pro LFP battery using its proprietary Non Propagation 3.0 technology that sets new benchmark for safety, lifespan, range and super fast charging designed for meeting Europe’s expanding e-mobility market.
The Super e- Platform supports 10C charging and up to (1MW) charging power with a charging current of 1000A. BYD said is the first time the industry has used MW as a unit of measurement for charging power, signifying that charging power has entered the MW era. This enables 5 minutes of charging for 400 kilometers of range.

The Shenxing Pro is claimed to charge at 12C, adding 520 km (CLTC) rated range in 5 minutes - equivalent to 1.7 km per second. The battery is also claimed to deliver 830 kW at even 20% state of charge, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.
