China Is Implementing Export Controls to Maintain Its Leading Position China has increasingly imposed export restrictions on key battery technologies and products. Some products face controls in terms of physical exports, while others are restricted in terms sharing know-how and equipment with foreign entities. Companies must apply for an export license, even to take their technology and produce it overseas. The main intentions behind these measures are: 1.

Ensure geographical China remains intertwined in global supply chains, and especially in stages of the supply chain that it is dominant in.

Ensure only Chinese companies have the know-how and equipment to produce certain high-end technologies.

Geopolitical response to protectionist measures by US and Europe.

The latest US-China trade deal includes an agreement that the October 2025 restrictions are suspended by 1 year. Source: Content & analysis provided by CRU Group (Distinguished Partner). For more information, visit crugroup.com.
