Core Competitive Advantages

Industry Overview

Chinese graphite anode enterprises control the complete industry chain from natural graphite mining to artificial graphite manufacturing, creating threefold advantages in technology, cost control, and production scale. BTR dominates the natural graphite sector with 63% global market share, while Shanshan has led the artificial graphite sector for years. The top five firms hold 70% of the global market.

China's graphite anode industry has leaped from a follower to a global leader. Shipments surged from just 192,000 tons in 2018 to over 2.08 million tons in 2024, with a compound annual growth rate exceeding 60%. In H1 2025, artificial graphite shipments reached 1.17 million tons, accounting for 91.7% of all graphite anode shipments.

Industry concentration has steadily increased, with CR5 holding around 70% of the market. BTR and Shanshan have formed a duopoly, each with production capacity exceeding 300,000 tons. Chinese firms not only meet domestic demand but also export significantly to Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the Americas. Technologically, Chinese companies are continuously investing in cost-cutting graphetization processes and cutting-edge areas like silicon-carbon anodes.
