Semi-Solid State Battery Technology is Ready for the China Market On August 5, 2025, Chinese automaker SAIC unveiled the 2nd generation of its MG4, which can be powered by a semi-solid-state battery jointly developed by SAIC and Qingtao New Energy. In December, SAIC MG announced it had delivered the first MG4 with the new technology at a price point of $14.5k. The positive electrode uses lithium-rich manganese-based materials (LMO). The company claims that liquid electrolyte content is reduced to 5%, which will significantly reduce the risk of combustion and improve cycle life.
