Effect of 10-Year Uninterrupted Storage on Cell Performance Researchers from TU Munich analyzed capacity loss and resistance change immediately after ten years of uninterrupted shelf storage at 50% state of charge and 6°C on 100 commercial 26650 LFP/C cells. Compared to fresh cells, stored cells show less cycle aging after ten years of storage when operated continuously up to 3000 full equivalent cycles at various operating conditions. Only when cycled at low depths of discharge at medium state of charge does the capacity loss exceed that of fresh cells, due to absent recovery behavior observed for fresh cells under these operating conditions.

Shelf-stored LFP cells can be used in applications just like fresh cells, without any additional precautions.
