Electrolyte-motion Induced Salt Inhomogeneity and Heterogenous Lithium Distribution The work provides the first operando three dimensional imaging of electrolyte motion in cylindrical cells, giving direct experimental evidence that electrolyte is expelled through in plane flow along the anode, a central assumption of the EMSI mechanism. The study shows that electrolyte redistribution is strongly shaped by cell geometry, pore filling ratio, anode composition, and gravity, revealing asymmetric regions that can become locally depleted during discharge and locally saturated during charge. It demonstrates that EMSI driven salt inhomogeneity can appear even at moderate rates and that some effects can partially reverse when the cell rests at low state of charge.
