2025 Patent Trends: Li-ion Batteries 2025 Li-ion patent landscape combines rising interest in advanced materials with clear country-specific technology choices.

In 2025, patent applications increased for advanced materials including NMC, LFP, LMFP, lithium-metal, silicon anodes and solid-state batteries, while other materials remain stable.

Material focus differs by country, especially for lithium metal oxides vs. lithium metal phosphates. China and India show a balanced 50:50 ratio, whereas most other countries exceed 75% oxide-based filings. 2024-2025 PATENT APPLICATIONS BY MAIN Li-ION BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES

2025 PATENT APPLICATIONS RELATED TO Li-ION BATTERIES BY COUNTRY

A patent family is a set of patent applications filed in multiple countries to protect a single invention by a common inventor(s). A first patent application is filed in one country – the priority country – and is then extended to other countries. Source: Patent search was done in December 2025 by KnowMade, using keywords and IPC/CPCs (H01M, H02J-007) in Orbit (Questel) which provides 100+ million patent documents from 100 patent offices (USA, Japan, Europe, China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.).
