Overview of 2025 Patent Activity: Na-ion Batteries
Patenting activity is dominated by applications in China and Chinese companies, with key player CATL. CATL is the most active patent applicant in 2025 with more than 22% of 2025 patent families. PPES and Toyota are the sole non-chinese patent applicants among main 2025 patent applicants.
A patent family is a set of patent applications filed in multiple countries to protect a single invention by a common inventor(s). A first patent application is filed in one country – the priority country – and is then extended to other countries. Source: Patent search was done in December 2025 by KnowMade, using keywords and IPC/CPCs (H01M, H02J-007) in Orbit (Questel) which provides 100+ million patent documents from 100 patent offices (USA, Japan, Europe, China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.).
