US Lacks Cost-Effective Options to Fulfill Domestic ESS Demand

Source: Content & analysis provided by CRU Group (Distinguished Partner). For more information, visit crugroup.com *Demand upside considers the overproduction due to Bullwhip Effect.

US domestic (Korean): nascent but accelerating quickly. Eligible for ITC, low cost for the batterymaker due to tax credit, but they are generally charging a premium for China-free supply, and cells are currently small-capacity pouch.

US domestic (Chinese): not eligible for production tax credit and customers not eligible for ITC.

Southeast Asia import: Relatively cheap, but future risk of countervailing duty cases, and some capacity is spoken for by other customers.

China import: large amount of capacity available to US customers, start-of-the-art cells and systems, (depending on the manufacturer), most cost-effective option even when factoring in tariffs (notwithstanding future rises).
